Day 7: The Social Mandate
We do have a responsibility to eliminate poverty: this was the gist of today's passage. God desires us, His children, to take the imitative to get rid of poverty. Are we sitting on the fence still? Does it hurts you, in the first place, when you see homeless people in the streets, people begging for money?Of course we have to offer our help with discernment from God as some are out there to con. Pray for a sensitive spirit; that God will prompt us who genuinely needs help. Pray that we will willingly stretch out a helping hand for those who really have a need. Pray for a heart that beats like Jesus'.
Proverbs 3:27-28 (The Message)
Never walk away from someone who deserves help;
your hand is God's hand for that person.
Don't tell your neighbor "Maybe some other time"
or "Try me tomorrow"
when the money's right there in your pocket.
Don't figure ways of taking advantage of your neighbor
when he's sitting there trusting and unsuspecting.
1 John 3:17-18 (NIV)
If anyone has material possessions
and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him,
how can the love of God be in him?
Dear children, let us not love with words
or tongue but with actions and in truth.
