Single Adult Spiritual Retreat 25th June 2005
God spoke to all of us individually during the retreat at Sembawang park. For me, God revealed to me 9 points for me to take note:
- We must always ask ourselves whether we are working to please God or to satisfy our own need for achieving results.
- We tend to look wildly in every other direction for the cause of our trouble & feel like helpless victims.
- His (God's) voice is a 'still, small voice' & we must at least slow down in order to listen.
- Joshua 1:9 -- Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
- Like fatigue, like hunger, loneliness is part of every human being. Even the most congenial marriage, the closest friendship is both transient & unpredictable. It is only God who can fill our deepest longings, who never has appointment elsewhere, who never replaces us with someone He likes better, who promises never to leave us totally alone. He is the only one who wants to be & always can be the unfailing companion on our journey.
- We cannot do without a special time & place to be alone with God. We must arrange to pray with God sometime everyday.
- The Bible is God's message to everybody. We deceive ourselves if we claim to want to hear His voice but neglect the primary channel through which it comes. We must read His word. We must obey it.
- Concentrate on today; accomplish what has to be done today & make sure it's right on schedule.
- See God & do more than just acknowledging His presence.
All these points spoke to me so directly; they are my answers to my trouble. Thank God for speaking to me... :)
